About Peace Arch Hospice Society (PAHS)

A community-based hospice organization providing grief, bereavement, and end-of-life support in White Rock and South Surrey.

Project

As Peace Arch Hospice Society sought to guide future service development and respond to shifting community demographics, it identified a need for a comprehensive community needs assessment. Bison Research & Development (formerly Jared Star Consulting) was engaged to assess service gaps, strengthen equity in service delivery, and develop a roadmap to expand culturally safe grief and bereavement supports.

What We Did

  • Conducted a multi-phase community needs assessment combining document analysis, literature review, an environmental scan of 35 hospice organizations, and engagement with over 140 community participants.

Impact

  • Identified gaps between PAHS’s current service reach and the needs of an increasingly diverse and structurally vulnerable population

  • Developed a three-phase roadmap—capacity building, relationship building, and program development—to guide future expansion

  • Positioned PAHS with actionable, community-informed steps to grow grief and bereavement services in culturally safe and equitable ways
