Manitoba Teachers’ Society—Policy Review
The Manitoba Teachers’ Society (MTS), representing over 16,000 members across the province, recognized the need to modernize its internal governance framework following an organizational equity audit. With dozens of legacy policies in place and gaps in key operational areas, MTS required a comprehensive review to ensure its policies reflected its values, membership priorities, and current best practices.
We undertook a multi-year policy review and development process. We assessed more than 70 existing policies, created a customized policy audit tool, and developed a standardized framework to guide future policy creation and revision. The review also identified critical missing policies, including Emergency Preparedness and Remote Work & Safety, ensuring MTS’s policy suite was complete, relevant, and forward-looking.
Impact:
The project is modernizing MTS’s governance and operational framework by embedding both equity and organizational values into policy design. As a result, MTS now has clearer, more accessible policies that align with its mission, strengthen accountability, and better support its staff and membership. This work sets the foundation for a stronger, values-driven organization prepared to respond effectively to emerging challenges.
