Project
AHWC and Bison Research & Development partnered to assess the feasibility of establishing an Urban Indigenous Research Lodge Ethics Board (UIRL-EB). Together, we explored how an Indigenous-led ethics process could strengthen community authority, cultural accountability, Indigenous data governance, and ethical research involving urban Indigenous communities.

What We Did
Collaboratively conducted a feasibility study to assess AHWC’s readiness and strategic options for a UIRL-EB, including an organizational review, literature review, environmental scan, and engagement with community members and key stakeholders.
Impact
Delivered a comprehensive evidence base to support informed decision-making, model development, and resource allocation.
Identified strong community and stakeholder support for an Indigenous-led research ethics process.
Strengthened relationships with community members, Elders and Knowledge Holders, researchers, and institutional partners.
Positioned AHWC as a leader in urban Indigenous research ethics and supported the organization in moving confidently into the next phase of development.
