About Safe Workers of Tomorrow (SWOT)

A Manitoba Nonprofit providing workplace saftey education for youth.

Project

As SWOT expanded its reach and refined its strategic direction, it identified a need to strengthen governance practices at the board level. We designed and delivered an Intro to Board Governance training session for SWOT’s board of directors, covering fiduciary duties (care, loyalty, obedience), policy-based decision-making, the distinction between governance and operations, and practical approaches to risk management and sector accountability.

What We Did

  • Designed and delivered a tailored Intro to Board Governance training

Impact

  • Improved board members’ understanding of fiduciary responsibilities and governance best practices

  • Clarified the role of bylaws and policies in effective oversight and decision-making

  • Strengthened alignment between board governance and SWOT’s strategic plan

  • Supported board confidence in balancing oversight with operational support

  • Positioned SWOT to build stronger governance structures and trust with funders, partners, and communities
